South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in 1st ODI at the New Wanderers

South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

Batting first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 231 with Oshada Fernando 49, Kusal Mendis 60 and D de Silva 39 the main run getters. Sri Lanka collapsed from 210-5 to 231 all out with Lungi Ngidi 3-60 and Imran Tahir 3-26 (off 10 overs) the pick of the bowlers for South Africa.

In reply, after the early loss of Reeza Hendricks for 1, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (81) and Faf du Plessis 112* put on 136 for the 2nd wicket, giving them a great platform to push on to an 8 wicket win over Sri Lanka. It was Faf du Plessis 11th ODI hundred.

The 2nd ODI is on March 6th at the SuperSport Park, Centurion starting at 11:00 AM.
