New Zealand v Bangladesh 1st Test Day 4 – New Zealand win by an innings and 52 runs
Despite brilliant hundreds and a record partnership between Mahmudullah 146 and Soumya Sarkar 149, Bangladesh lost the opening Test by an innings and 52 runs, at Seddon Park, Hamilton today.
The 235-run 5th wicket stand between Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah kept the inevitable New Zealand victory on hold during the morning’s play and it was Sarkar’s maiden Test ton and Mahmudullah’s career-best score – however, in the afternoon, Trent Boult 5-123 and Tim Southee 3-98 struck back for New Zealand dismissing Bangladesh for 429 in their 2nd innings and in the process BJ Watling took his total of dismissals by a NZ keeper to a record 202.
New Zealand won by an innings and 52 runs – the 2nd Test starts in Wellington on the 7th March.
