Peshawar Zalmi beat Lahore Qalandars by 10-wicket
Akmal scored an unbeaten 57, while Iqbal remained not out on 37.
The Lahore Qalandars have lost all five matches so far and seven stretching back to last season. And as things stand, their only chance of a point could be from a wash-out.
After that heart-pumping affair between Islamabad United and the Lahore Qalandars in the early hours of Saturday morning, normalcy was restored and the double-header on Saturday was way too lop-sided, to say the least.
Quetta Gladiators had earlier set the lowest total – 102 – against the Multan Sultans but Lahore Qalandars were to lower that benchmark even further, spluttering to exactly a 100 in 17.2 overs, the fourth lowest in the PSL.
There was no lack of intent at the start with Fakhar Zaman and captain Brendon McCullum firing away in anger.
But once Hasan Ali and left-arm spinner Liam Dawson, playing his first game in the PSL, hunted both down, the Zalmi attack devoured the rest.
Dawson, a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan, was in line for a hat-trick, the second of the night, after Multan Sultans’ leg spinner Imran Tahir had taken one earlier, against the Quetta Gladiators, but the Englishman was denied by Sohail Akhtar.
Nonetheless, he did finish up with three wickets, those of Zaman, Denesh Ramdin and Sohail Akhtar. Hasan Ali too had three – McCullum, Sunil Narine and Salman Irshad, while Wahab Riaz gave the ‘moustached send-off’ to Sohail Khan and Yasir Shah.
The Lahore Qalandars had a mighty collapse from one for 42 to 100 all out.
